Collaborative Practice

Collaborative practice is a private divorce process that requires the parties and all the professionals commit to no court involvement. The parties and the professionals that work with the parties sign an agreement that they will work together to come to an agreement. If the parties are unable, with the support of the professional team, to come to an agreement then both attorneys withdraw from representing the clients and the parties then have to start from the beginning. The process is designed to give the parties an incentive to work together in the process. This process provides parties with the most control over their divorce.

Many folks believe “going to court” is the only choice when facing a divorce. In fact, the vast majority of divorce cases filed settle out of court. Court may seem like the only option when the choice for divorce is unilateral, when only one party wants the divorce. Usually emotions are running high and feelings are in control of decision making. STOP! Before you act make sure you understand your choices. Litigation is expensive not only financially but emotionally as well.
